Handwriting in Preschool

(This is a course practice page.)

Hi, I am a preschool teacher. I am having a little trouble with getting my students to write their name correctly. I would like for you to share some of your ideas. But, remember in preschool we can not have them trace their name or use worksheets.

  -Thank you in advance

  1. Amberli,
I am stumped! I taught preschool many years ago. I would write the child's name with a highligher, and the child would trace over it with pencil. But, if they can't trace or use worksheets, that can be difficult. A fun way to practice name writing would be to spread shaving cream over the tables, and have the students use their finger to write the letters. The shaving cream also cleans the tables. Good luck! 2. Amberli,
This is a tough one! I really liked Jennifer's idea with the shaving cream. Could you use rice in buckets for the students to learn to write their names or letters? I seen it on Pinterest! KAllsup

  3. Thanks Jennifer and Katie ! I have done the shaving cream with my 3 year olds over the summer and they had a blast. It's crazy you mentioned the rice Katie, we just put that in our writing center the other day. So far, I have seen some of the students using it correctly. It is a very messy idea but the kids seem to really like it. :)
